Opportunities to support

Second edition of the annual Lob the Ball Fundraising.
May 29th 2025
Last May we hosted the first-ever Lob the Ball event to raise money for research and awareness about lobular cancer. With over 150 attendees and raising over $100k, it was a fantastic start to our work and we are so humbled and grateful for the ongoing support and generosity of friends, family, strangers, private foundations and corporations.
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, we will once again host Lob the Ball events.
This year, enjoy pickleball and tennis led by Pittsburgh’s own tennis legend Craig Perry. Golf will be held at the Fox Chapel Golf Club, guided by their outstanding golf staff and Eric Johnson, Director of Golf at the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, and recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of the top 100 golf instructors in the United States.

About
About Lob the Ball
Dear supporters, In 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition to Tubular and Ductal Carcinoma, I found out out one full year later that I also have lobular breast cancer. Lobular cancer is seriously under-researched and hard to detect with current imaging technology. This deadly cancer has claimed many lives and we must do more to stop it from claiming more, including my own.
- Comprises 10-15% of breast cancer diagnoses
- Over 40,000 women are diagnosed with it every year
- Is difficult to see on mammograms, ultrasounds and even MRI
- Is severely understudied
Support research
To fund much-needed high quality research on lobular cancer, we are asking for your help.
In collaboration with the Netherlands American Foundation (NAF), I am raising funds to support the work of the Derksen Lab. Led by principal investigator Patrick Derksen, the lab has performed groundbreaking research into invasive lobular breast cancer (ILC). The DerksenLab unraveled why ILC can survive the unique dissemination as single cancer cells. Recently, they showed why ILC is a slowly dividing cancer, findings that have instigated new avenues for research into ILC dormancy and long latency relapses. Their unique work on cell survival has propelled 4 ILC specific clinical trials. The Lab is based in the Netherlands and represents a Global player with ongoing collaborations in the US and Europe.
